Here are examples of bodies of water (mga anyong tubig) in the Philippines and in other parts of the world. This is taught at the Grade 2 level in a subject called Sibika…

Pictures of Anyong Tubig

Karagatan (Ocean) – This is the widest and largest body of water in the world. Huge sea vessels can travel here. There are five oceans in the world:
  • Pacific Ocean – ocean closest to the Philippines. This is also the largest ocean.
  • Atlantic Ocean
  • Southern Ocean
  • Indian Ocean
  • Arctic Ocean
Dagat (Sea) – The sea is salty. A lot of aquatic resources live in the sea. Examples of seas are the Philippine Sea and the South China Sea (which is the largest sea near the Philippines).
Lawa (Lake) – A lake is a body of water surrounded by land. There are many lakes in the Philippines. Lake water is fresh, and some of the fish that you can find in Philippine lakes are hito (catfish), dalag, tilapia, and ayungin.
Examples of lakes are: Taal Lake (where you will find the fish called tawilis), and Lanao Lake (found in Mindanao)
Tsanel (Channel) – A channel is a wide body of water found between islands. This has to be crossed into order to move from one island to another.
Examples of channels are: Babuyan Channel (found in northern Luzon), and Balintang Channel (separates Batanes from the Babuyan Islands)
Talon (Waterfall) – Waterfalls fall from a high place. Examples are: Tinago Falls (found in Iligan City), and Katibawasan Falls (found in Camiguin).
Look (Bay) – This serves as a harbor for sea-faring vessels in the Philippines. Passengers ride here, and goods can be loaded for transport to different places. Manila Bay (Look ng Maynila) is known for its beautiful sunsets.
Examples are: Subic Bay, and Look ng Maynila
Kipot (Strait) – This is a narrow body of water, which separates two large land forms. Examples are: Ang Kipot ng San Juanico (San Juanico Strait) which is found between Samar and Leyte. This is the narrowest strait in the Philippines.
Golpo (Gulf) – This is part of the ocean, and can be found at the opening of the sea. This can be used as a port for sea vessels. You can also fish here.
Examples: Golpo ng Lingayen (Lingayen Gulf) found near Pangasinan, and Golpo ng Ragay (Ragay Gulf) found near Camarines Norte. At iyan ang mga halimbawa ng golpo.
Ilog (River) – The river is a wide body of water that flows towards the sea. It has fresh water, so fresh-water fishes are harvested from rivers.
Examples of rivers are: Cagayan River (the longest and largest river in the Philippines), Pasig River (a river that can be seen in the city)
Batis (Stream or Brook) – This is a small body of flowing water. The source is a spring (bukal)
[QUESTION: Is there no Tagalog or Filipino word differentiating a stream from a brook?]

Sapa (Creek) – This is shallow and smaller than a stream. The water is used by farmers to irrigate their rice fields.
Bukal (Spring) – This is the smallest body of water. The water come from beneath the ground, and can be either hot or cold. Hot springs can be found in areas near volcanoes.
Examples: Bukal ng Bundok Makiling, Tiwi Hot Spring

Strategy for Network Marketing in the Philippines

Whatever You Do, Don't Click Here
Some people are getting drawn to network marketing or MLM here in the Philippines. Here's a strategy you can use...

Go Micro-Part-Time!

In other words, spend as little personal time on MLM as you can. Don't bother your friends, family, officemates, or acquaintances.

Instead, publish a single web page that talks about the product your network marketing company is pushing, plus an invitation for the reader to get in touch with you.

That's it? Just a single webpage?

Well... you need to build a massive collection of webpages that indirectly promote YOU. Not your MLM company or business opportunity. Not your network marketing organization.

You. Build the business of YOU.

No, I don't mean write about how good you are, or how fantastic you may be. Yes, I'm sure it's true, but there's no need for you to trumpet that fact.

Let others be the ones to say good things about you.

How To Build The Business Of YOU

Simply help others... by publishing useful and relevant content online.

More and people are going to the web searching for answers to their questions or solutions to their problems. And if your article helps them solve their problem, how do you think they'll feel about you?

Exactly.

That's what I mean by building the business of YOU.

Yes, it will take a fair amount of time and effort. But the beauty of the web is this: what you worked on before will continue serving you in the future.

It's there on the web, ready to be seen, viewed, or read by others in the future. Imagine that, a future opportunity to connect with people, thanks to something you wrote many months ago.

And there you have it. Promote your MLM company minimally. Spend more time promoting the business of YOU. :-)

Kindle in the Philippines

Whatever You Do, Don't Click Here
I've been thinking of getting a Kindle, mainly to solve the issue of storage space. So many books, so little shelf space.

Been looking specifically at the Kindle Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G + Wi-Fi, 6" Display, Graphite, 3G Works Globally - Latest Generation

The thing that makes me hesitate, though, is the issue about the battery. What, I need to send the unit back to the USA, because I may not replace the battery myself? Hmmm.

Heard that Sharon Cuneta has at least 15 Kindles. So that most likely means you can use a Kindle even in you're in the Philippines. I mean, download ebooks, upload them to your Kindle, read, and enjoy.

But what happens when the battery goes kaput?

Or should we wait for the Kindle 3?

Philippine Elections, Blogging, Partisanship

Whatever You Do, Don't Click Here
Before you know it, it will be May 2010. Yes, it's the Philippine Presidential Elections. Some people are trying to help educate voters by presenting more info about the various candidates.

Some Filipino bloggers are keeping an eye out, and are trying to objectively present their information. In fact, one of them brands their online watch as non-partisan.

I dunno... Perhaps the display of various duet-photos (each presidential candidate + one blogger) is meant to show some kind of fairness or balance in providing exposure to each candidate.

Non-partisan.

Riiiiiight.

Here's my question, though: If you're not willing to reveal online who your presidential candidate is (because your election monitoring group is non-partisan), then why even publish a short-list of 3 candidates?

Clearly, something doesn't add up.

Kulang talaga sa credibilidad.

But you already knew that, right? ;-)
